Varun Kamat

An insatiable desire to solve problems is what drives Varun Kamat. He holds a Bachelors of Design in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois in Chicago where he focused heavily on digital prototyping and manufacturing.

He has also been immersed in other fields like mechanical engineering, robotics, entrepreneurship, lutherie, philosophy, and most recently is getting his feet wet with marine biology. Having a diverse set of experiences across several different fields makes him optimal for cross disciplinary work, as one can never be too certain of where the ideal answer to a problem lies. Always trying to find a novel solution, but never discounting the knowledge of traditional manufacturing methods (sometimes centuries’ worth), he will find the best approach to take an idea to reality.

Using his skills in digital modeling and a heavily analytical approach to problem solving, he creates patient specific replicas, device prototypes, custom lab equipment, machine parts, and occasionally a 3d printed mascot or two. Whether you need to take a back of the napkin sketch to a prototype, or a prototype to a production model, he can find the right path for you.

Thomas Most

Considered a pioneer in rapid prototyping/3D printing prosthetics, Tom Most is a wealth of knowledge in 3D modeling and design for sculpting and medical application. He brings the precision and versatility of 3D print technology to customized orthotic and prosthetic creation, extending how VisMed-3D continues as a leader in Biomedical 3D Printing.

Tom started in sculpture and mold making over 14 years ago by creating everything from toys to high definition models. He has been in the rapid prototyping/additive manufacturing sector since the late 1980’s, and in that time has been department head of several large prototype service bureaus, as well as having co-founded an Additive Manufacturing (AM) service bureau. Tom has a long history of working in the Orthotic and Prosthetic (O&P) fields, and has served as a lead CAD operator and as a certified prosthetist – resident orthotist since 2008.

Tom also played a big role in prototyping the DARPA hand with Dr. Weir at NUREC during his residency while also being a 3D print consultant for NUPOC. His experience makes him a recognized expert on the subject of 3D printing for prosthetic and orthotics speaking at national conferences.

He holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Illinois and obtained his certification in Orthotics/Prosthetics from Northwestern University.
